Location

North Wales hosts the perfect setting for the Cambrian Rally, in particular Clocaenog Forest in Denbighshire and Penmachno just outside Betws y Coed. Both locations were used extensively for the Lombard RAC Rally back in the early eighties.

North Wales (Welsh: Gogledd Cymru)

Comprises the island of Anglesey, the Llyn peninsula and the Snowdonia mountain range, together with the catchments of the Rivers Conwy, Clwyd and Dee with the River Dyfi forming the southern boundary.

Clocaenog Forest (near Llyn Brenig)

It extends 40 square miles and is mostly coniferous softwoods under the control of the Forestry Commission. It was planted in 1905 on what was mostly moorland and many hill farms. It is a highland region, mostly above 350 metres.

There are high points which rise above the tree level, affording views of Snowdonia and Arenig Fawr to the west, the Berwyn Range to the south, the Clwydian Range to the east, and the Denbigh moors to the north. The highest point in the forest, easily reached on foot with clear paths, is 'The Mast' at Craig Bron Bannog.

Penmachno (near Betws y Coed)

Penmachno is a village in the isolated upland valley of Cwm Penmachno, 4 miles south of Betws-y-Coed in the county of Conwy, North Wales. The forest stages comprise of both north and south Penmachno.
